About PNW Yarn Girl

Why I decided to start PNW Yarn Girl

I have a friend who is so allergic to wool yarns that she got itchy from just walking through a fiber festival for an hour without touching anything! When she asked me to knit a jacket for her son's wedding, wow, was it hard to find a non-wool, beautiful, "arty" yarn to use.

So, that motivated me to start an indie yarn dyeing business having a line of non-wool yarns that were just as amazing as those that are available to us in the wool varieties. Yes, I do wool too, how could I resist? But, you will always find high quality non-wool offerings that I dye with the same attention to detail and creativity that I apply to my wool bases.

Why the name PNW Yarn Girl

My husband started calling me Yarn Girl several years ago when he saw that my stash was busting at the seams. And my colorways are all inspired by the amazing colors of the PNW--the Pacific Northwest. So there you have it.

What I did before starting PNW Yarn Girl

I have had a full career in higher education as a professor and an administrator; I'm trained as a mathematician, but have worked primarily as a mechanical engineer. I have loved teaching, learning and creating from a young age. My mom taught me to knit when I was 7 and crochet when I was 12. So learning to dye yarn tied a lot of things together for me. A special thanks to Felicia Lo of Sweet Georgia for putting together amazing online courses on yarn dyeing that spoke to me.

Join me! And soak up the colors of the PNW...in wool and 100% non wool yarn bases.
